I've got some electrical issues with my 84 BII with a 302 and a dura spark conversion. Ok, so here's whats happening. In about the past month I've had to replace 3 starter relays, a voltage regulator, ignition switch and a starter. And today the ignition switch went out again. I cant find any shorts and all my grounds (that i can see) work. As of right now i can turn the key to run, and if i jump the terminals on the starter relay it runs fine. But it wont start if I turn the key to start or turn off once it's running. This thing ran fine for months with no issues like this. I know some thing is shorting or theres something i'm missing but i cant figure it out. Any ideas?

Read this all the way through a couple of times get a VOM and start troubleshooting.

Update, the accessories are on as soon as i connect the battery, and stay on even if i unplug the ignition switch and leave just the pig tail hangin there. anyone have any problems like this? I've been going through wiring diagrams but haven't had much luck figuring this out.

It sounds like someone did something with the fuse block or tapped into the power from the battery. fuses are hot all the time 16 and 1. Check all the wiring close looking for any hackwork added wires and pull all the fuses then put them in one at a time to point you in the right direction it could be backfeeding past the ignition switch to the fuse block. Put he fuses in one at a time and check that circuit for proper operation and check the lighter wire that it isnt connected to somthing else and look at the fuse block close and for any burnt or bare wires. Just be careful the battery is disconnected when pulling stuff apart to avoid fireworks or camp fires until you get the wires clear to test them. GL

my duraspark 2 is connect straight to the igniton, but it is fused, so i would start there
