I had the truck sitting for a long time and then did a 2.8 carb to 3.8 TB swap. Engine runs great when sitting, and on the highway. BUT, engine lugs when slowing, and stalls when coming to a stop. It sounds as if the engine is straining. Won't start again unless I floor the gas, or wait for a few hours. I had the tranny rebuilt and haven't driven it since. The fluid shows way over the fill line, so I was hoping that's the problem. I want to make sure that I've got the right dipstick in it before I drain some out. If I remember right, the dipstick was very loose and may not have been original.
