83 ford ranger 2wd broke tranny tnite???

I have a 83 ford ranger 2.8 v6 automatic and I guess its a c3 tranny? well i accidently had in n and was trying too hold steady on gas too warm engine up and ive got the tab for shifter removed so I had foot on gas and reached over too get junk out dash and went into gear and it just popped and bark tires over and bam nothing just has reverse and no fwd gears and allso its making a weird whineing noise while running allso just not sure what Ive broked its crazy how my luck is lately too my son is having surgery feb 9th and going through divorce blah blah ill shutup but could anyone tell me what it could be? allso where can I find a c3 and its a 3spd by the way

Sounds broke lol check ur local junkyards or Craigslist
 
^^yea real helpful post. Anyone can say its busted.

Sounds like you may have busted a band with the sudden jump into gear.
 
You can check if it is the intermediate band by trying to adjust it. You can only adjust one band it is on the drivers side. Loosen the large nut and turn the bolt in until it gets tight if it gets tight after three or four turns torque it down to 10 ft lbs Then it back out two full turns and hold it with a wrench and then tighten the nut. I just pulled my c3 yesterday not a real fun job. Not alot of info available it will be my first automatic rebuild i`m hopeing to find a cheap parts tranny. The rear ring gear thrust washers fried causing it to lose oil pressure. You still having reverse is a good sign. hopefully you can just adjust it. If not I`m in the market for a parts tranny :-)
