Vac lines are correct... that was one of the 1st things I did...

Ive heard of carbs making the engine idle up then down etc.....kind of what your saying yours is doing. But Ive only seen this happen on carbs. that were not feed back carbs. (not saying it wont happen on them). I had a 1974 ford maverick that did it and my dad and couldnt figure out what the problem was. We rebuilt the carb., we checked out everthing under the hood all the emissions stuff and it still did idle up then down. Finally we brought it to a machanice and they said it need a new carb. After that ran 120 mph and idle great. But it wasnt a feed back carb. My dad has a 1984 ford ranger 2.8 liter
4x4. When we got it, it was just cold blooded. It wouldnt start easily, run for s!@#. So we rebuilt the carb. Still had the same problems. We went through all the emissions stuff and they were fine. Finally we put a used carb on it and to this day havent had a problem and it run great. My piont is from what ive read and my personal experances, it sounds like the carb. might be the problem. If you had a video of the truck idling, running, the clicking sound, it might make it easier for people on here to help you out.

Ill get the video!
Because im stumped...

And so far i have gone through 3 carbs... 1 i had to ditch because it was missing a vac port that i noticed last minute... so took the rebuild off and put on another body...
No being on my 3rd one i dont know whats up?

But yea ill get a video up i think i might take it to my mechanic and just have him tune the carb and a diagnostic

Ok i got a new vacum switch panel to try and get rid of this clicking... (it wouldnt hurt)
But
1 thing... i have got it running pretty decent
but in between gears the rpms stay high they come down about 3 seconds after stopping to the point where it goes so low it dies on me sometimes?

UUUUGGGGHHHHH!

Staying high for a few seconds is actually normal. That's the ISC doing it's job. It does sound like your curb idle might be a bit low, however.

I think i may have put the isc up too high... I turned the screw until it touched!
Prob WAY WRONG but yea! Whatever idle screw is on the passenger side of carb i mess with that and its starts dying... so i made it tight and i thinki thats why its staying high rpm in between gears.
ITS way too high for neutral i know that... i sounds like i have my foot on the gas!
but my throttle screw isnt even touching the throttle plate so i dont know man i have a headache lol

I just noticed that my butterfllly doesnt open all the way when warm?

Still stuck at 8th of an inch?

HMMMM?

Ya it should open all the way. Do you have to keep the electric choke or can you turn it into a manual choke (we did that to my dads).

No i dont care as long as it runs right... my friend too has his manually done he said he just has to warm it up a little in the morning...

How do i do it?

I just noticed after taking a video that after being warm its still at 8th of an inch...

CRAP!

Are you saying the throttle only opens an eighth of an inch no matter how far you push the accelerator pedal?

It opens a little more when i press the pedal not much at all...
And this is my 1st project, 1st carb, 1st ranger so im learning i didnt know any different lol you know?

But yea its goes straight back to 8th of an inch once let off the pedal...

ill look into it today the thing im asking my self is whats wrong with it?
Why isnt it opening? i was messing with it open yesterday left it open after being warm and it dies... everytime! same thing with closing it? i dont knoooooowww! grrrr!

If you want I have pictures of my dads manual choke on his 2.8 I can show you and the idle screw im talking about.

Is this the choke butterfly on the top of the carb or the throttle butterfly on the very bottom inside of the carb?

If it's the choke, and I am assuming it is, it should open farther than that...I can't remember if it is adjustable on the feedback carbs or not but I do know that you can replace the whole choke assembly if it's broken. Parts stores will have them.
