what is the difference between the non-4.0 and the 4.0 ranger/broncoII axles?

is it a completely different setup with a different offset to the carrier, etc or are they just 31 spline versus the regular 28 spline and everything else is the same?

7.5 Vs 8.8 for the rear and a D35 vs a D28 for the front. This info is redily available in our tech section. I would search if I were you so you dont look like a moron again in the future. :icon_thumby:

There was no 4.0 before 90 and no 4.0 Bronco IIs. The only difference is 4.0 trucks got 28 spline 8.8s.

D28 and D35 has nothing to do with engines, the D35 started in 90 regardless. Starting in 93 however, all 2.3 trucks and some 3.0 trucks got D28/35 hybrids.

I believe they did, didnt they? All 4.0 Rangers have a D35, no matter what year. All ranger's/BIIs had a D35 that had a 2.8/2.9 So Technically, it does have to do with the engines

oh ok, so the 4.0 trucks got a dana versus an 8.8 or 7.5 out back?

The 4.0 started in 90, as did the D35, so of course all 4.0s have D35s.

Did you mean D28 in your second sentence? The 2.8 ended in 85, so there was no D35. 90-92 2.3s, 2.9s and 3.0s all got the D35 front axle. In 93 all 2.3s got D28/35 hybrids, and some 3.0s got hybrids (there was no more 2.9 after 92).
