Our 87 came with fabricated bumpers by the PO.

We'd prefer the OEM look, although I have to say the PO did a great job of fabbing.

Anyhow, I found a used rear chrome step bumper on ebay for a good price - should arrive tomorrow. Has the black factory pads.

I'd like to find a front bumper to match.

I can buy a plain chrome front bumper, or one with the holes for the pad/impact strip.

Problem is, I can't find anyone who carries the impact strip itself - either new or used. I don't even know what it looks like, to be honest.

I'm leaning towards getting the plain one, and then drilling/cutting/filing the holes for the impact strip if I ever pick one up.

Anyone know where I can get the impact strip? I looked on ebay, LMC, Broncograveyard.

Did they come from the factory with pads on only one end, or was it always a matched set?

matched is all I ever saw..
Honestly I might have one, but Idk how to ship something like that lol. You can have it if you pay shipping. IF I CAN FIND IT. I'll look tonight/tomorrow.. I don't exactly need it anymore

only other place I'd check is jcwhitney..

also try calling LMC.. they have some stuff not listed. Tell them the item number for the bumper with the holes, and tell them you need the impact pad for that. See what they tell you.

Check Craigslist and Ebay and the scrapyards. If you have custom bumpers I would just keep them. People want them a lot and I would like to see a photo of the truck front and rear.

This is what the front impact strip looks like.

It's just black plastic. Honestly, if you want the look and can't find one, masking tape and spray on rubber coating will get you the look. My experience is that the do very little to help with a real impact.

That's a good idea to. Tape it out, scuff it up, spray it bedliner

Thanks for the suggestions and the pics.

I don't expect them to do much. But I'm building the truck for my wife - I'd like the bumpers to match, and she tends to bump things (if you're married, you probably know what I mean).

I also checked Tasca, but the part's been discontinued, and they don't give out part numbers so I can't search on that. Other dealer sites don't even list a part at all.

Only pic I have right now is here http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1347224#post1347224 - post #4.

The front bumper is a big hunk of C-Channel, and the rear is a large piece of pipe. Luckily, the frame horns weren't altered in front, so I should be able to put an OEM bumper back on.

Part 17K833? The Ford part number is probably TZ-17K833-B.

That looks like it would be the part.

What's the deal on the bumper extensions? Are those required with the impact strip?

The extensions make it look like a 89-92 front bumper. Would one of those fit? I can probably get an 89-92 from the junkyard. 83-88s are kinda rare locally.

Yeah, those bumper extensions confuse me a bit too. I would have expected it to show more like adsm08's bumpers although I think the bumpers on my 84 have the extensions at the end like the picture.

Found a pic:

I think they just had multiple bumper options for base, XLT, XLS, Eddie Bauer.

Just for future reference....

Googling seems to indicate TZ-17K833-B is the right part, but the P/N for early 90s Explorers, which I believe interchanges with 89-92 Rangers. If my googling is right the -B is beige and the -A is black.

Looking at LMC's catalog (and assuming it's accurate), it seems there's 3 different bumpers.

Plain (Bronco + Ranger)
with holes for impact strip (Ranger)
with holes for bumper and extensions (Bronco)

So it looks like the impact strip doesn't go with the extensions - it's an either/or thing.

Looks like the full P/N is E6TZ-17K833-A

I contacted a couple of places to see if it's still available from Ford. One place has some NOS inventory.

I've been looking for a good front bumper for about 6 years...still looking...good info on the part numbers and pics...thanks...but pretty sure I won't be able to find one in the junk yard too soon...

I've walked by several in JY's that were fine... I think I might even still have my stock bumper.

I have no clue what you mean. My wife is one of the best drivers on the road and has only hit one thing, and it cut her off.
