83 2.3l no spark

I got a 83 ranger that came with a 2.0l carbed stock but i just swapped in a 2.3l out of an 85 ranger. i kept the ignition system and the carb from the 2.0. the truck ran fine until one day i had it idling in the driveway and it just died. i tried to start it back up but i wasnt getting any spark. i've repaced the coil with a known good one and that didn't make any difference.i'm thinkin it could be the distributor but i'm not sure and would like to get some other opinions before i start throwing money at it.

Ok guys finally got some time to play with the truck. brought the ICM to autozone and it failed their test so i bought a new one and put it on. it still dont spark. i'm thinkin its the pick up coil. does anyone know how to test the pick up coil if so any help would be much appreciated. thanks guys

hey, little off topic I have an 1987 carb'd putting a 2.3L in it from a 93 mustang BUT gotta take the heads and intake and carb off my 2.0L and run it that way cause I'm afraid of an EFI swap. any advice? stay single or 2 barrel?

Sorry it took so long to reply figured out what was wrong my distributor drive gear was missing about six teeth. 87 when i did my swap i left my efi head on because i didn't have the money to replace the head gasket and had to have the truck runnin for work. i stayed with my stock one barrel carb and didn't have any problems. you could swap in a 2 barrel but you would have to have the carb and the adapter to attach the carb to the intake. hope this helps
