i found a 82 ford ranger with a fuel injected 4 banger. but ive never herd of a 4 banger in an 82. so im just wondering how hard it would be to put a 86 2.9l in it

82 ranger :icon_confused: you sure its an 82? first model year of rangers was 1983 and there wasn't an EFI engine in a ranger until 1985(2.3L I4) although im told rangers were first sold in late 82' the 86-88 2.9L are known for there head cracking issue, although fixed in 89-92 models.. if your still gona swap for what ever reason, you will need the 2.9L, its transmission, its EFI wiring harness, engine mounts, mabey more, someone else should chime in also just to make sure

the ranger made its intro in late 1982 so it was really a 83 and like cody93 said they did not make a efi ranger before 1985 and for the v6 not untill 1986 , now to get down to the question , yes it can be done but it will take some time and money ,for starters if the 82 really does have efi then it should not be too hard just change the wireing harness under the hood and engine mounts and swap rads and install a v6 tranny , but if the 82 is carbed then it will be a whole different story you would have to take the whole wireing harness inside the cab and under the hood and the computer from the 86 and try to make it fit and work in the other truck , then you would have all the other stuff to mount the v6 in the truck
