I am thinking about getting a gun and shooting my truck myself. I only have a little rust on the rocker panel to have fixed, I am doing the easy way out and just replacing panels and the bed rather than fixing what I have. I probably could sandblast the rocker panels myself but I don't know how to keep the sand out of the cab. Already have a brand new in box fender for $45.
Dunno what the costs will be, but it will be cheaper than having a shop do it.
I have painted a couple tractors with rattlecans, they came out pretty good. No clear though.
put some time into it and do it for $50 bucks .. check out rolledon.com... u take rustolum high gloss enamel and roll it on after thinning it 50/50 with spirits.. its lasts 3 + years and very easy to maintain ... there are many members that have successfully done it takes about 6-8 coats and only like 4 sanding jobs way worht the time and effort and much cheaper
For me, I already have a big compressor and would have to make a tarp tent anyway to keep the bugs out.
Only thing extra I would need is a gun... which would be nice for painting tractors as well. Too many different surfaces for a roller to have a chance.
For cheap and effective, here is a rattlecan job I did in '01. I only painted the tractor and have yet to do the rear rims. No clear or bondo anywhere, isn't really shiny but I have never waxed it either and is stored in a dirt floor shed so it is always dusty.
