I got a surprise this morning on the way to work. I was cruising at around 80 mph when I needed to accelerate a little. As soon as it got over 80 it stopped accelerating. I tried again a couple times and realized the speed limiter was activating.

I normally run on a tune that raises the speed limiter but I switched it back to the stock tune before going through smog check. I am running 4.56 gears to work better with my off-road 33" tires. I put my 31" tires back on when I don't plan on going off-road for a while. That is probably the reason the speed limiter kicked in at 80.

I have a Recalibrator for the speedometer that corrects the indicated speed whether I am on the 33" or 31" tires. I thought that would keep the speed limiter from activating until I hit slightly over 90. Apparently, the computer gets the signal from the speed sensor before the speedometer and thinks I am going 90+ when I am at 80 because my drivetrain is spinning at an equivalent of 90+ mph. I will be happy to get the smog check finished so I can get the performance tune controlling the engine again.

I guess that is possible. It all depends on where your recalibrator intercepts the signal.

IIRC the speedo signal is taken off the rear diff sensor by the ABS module, and then split. It gets sent to the PCM and the IC on different lines. If your unit is making corrections after the ABS module, then yes, it is very possible the computer thinks you are going faster than you really are.

Hmmmmm
If you have a tuner and tunes you should be able to set the limit where you want.

Th3 Scalers used are Speed limiter on" and Speed limit Off". It's very easy to enter a value in MPH, mine is set at 120mph.

The instructions on the Recalibrator said to connect after the ABS module. I think they were wanting to avoid messing with the signal to ABS module.

I wish it were as easy as using my tuner to change the speed limiter and correct the speedometer. Unfortunately, my tuner is a older one that does not give me those options. My issue will be resolved when I go back to one of the performance tunes. They have the speed limiter raised and I have never hit that speed yet.
