I just set up some 4.88s and a mini spool in an explorer 8.8. I had to grind about 1/8" material off the top and bottom of the c clip to get it to fit in the mini spool recess...my question is whether anyone on here has run one this way? I am just wondering how it may affect the overall durability and if I can run it like this or if I should pull it all back out and get a c clip eliminator kit? I guess I should mention it's going in a 95 ranger, will be off road more than on, and if this question has been discussed before I apologize in advance.

Your problem may actually be with the splines. I found that on certain brands (yukon), unless you're running aftermarket axles, you will need to remove about 3/16" of the splines on the outside of the mini spool.
I'm not bad mouthing Yukon... but if they would have mentioned that it sure would help many people out.

That would definitely provide plenty of clearance to solve my issue. Maybe I will give that a shot. Thanks for the help!

I had to do the same thing with the explorer 8.8 in my ranger with the mini-spool. There is nothing wrong with what you did as there is not any room in there to do anything else.
