howdy,
So I am about to get ready to finally complete my project and get my truck on the road. Had a question about running the mini spool in my 8.8.
I plan on driving the truck a few days a week to work or out on the town and doing the whole weekend warrior thing when i can.
Been reading an awful lot on other forums about all the stress that mini spools put on the drive train when not on soft ground.
Just wanted to know how serious the likely hood of breaking a shaft or causing any other damage in a hard turn or general driving on pavement actually is? The truck is on 35x1250r15 bfg KM2 with 15inch steel wheels.. 5.13 gears..
I dont plan on taking it on big city/ high mileage trips
thanks..
Liam

Well the only thing even remotely likely to break is the mini-spool itself. They are weak in a c-clip axle. If you want it spooled, weld it, it'll be stronger and cheaper.

yeah.. the spool is already in. bought the whole rear geared and spooled already. Just trying to see if its worth having it in there or going with something else.. don't wanna be taking a hard turn and look over and see a rear tire and axle rolling by me.. lol
thanks!

just looking over your profile.. how do you like the aussie in your 8.8.. ? ive got my dana 35 rigged up with one.. but have yet to get it out in the woods.

if you like your tires i dont recomend it...i did it for a while but i was running around on cheep tires...its hard on them and 35" km2's aint cheep

get a detroit, you will be pleased with it.

Love both my Aussies. Much better than the piece of shit Powertrax No-Slip in my Dakota.

Don't worry about breaking axles on the street with a spool. Be worried about the mini-spool itself and tire wear.

they definitely were not cheap.lol. youre right.. something i can just switch off or isnt on all the time would prolly pay for itself in 10k miles by saving the rear rubber

x2 on the detroit. there when you need it and much easier on tires. solid, dependable, and strong. no chirping going around corners, no switches to flip, no electricals or compressed air set ups to break, etc. and way cheaper than the ones you can turn off and on. it's seamless and you don't have to try finding a switch on a snowy/muddy road on a dark, moonless night.
just my $.02.
