I was wondering when swaping the 8.8 rear end into the ranger from the explorer could you use the existing spring pads on the axle if you wanted to mount the spring underneath the axle. The reason I ask is beacuse I have a 1994 4cyl and I want to upgrade the 7.5 to a 8.8 and I don't care if the truck is jacked up becasue it is only a 2wd street truck.

Thanks in advance Tyler

Explorer rearends are a swap in, you just have to move the shock bracket towards the Ranger shock mounts & it will drop your truck 4 inches in the rear. I've to got a 98 Explorer 8.8 w/disc brakes in my green 94, if you checkout my link, you'll see it & how my truck sits.......

Now if your wantin to do as you described, I'm lookin to do that vary thing, but not to raise my truck, but to be able to get some 15X12 wheels w/6.5" backspacin & some Hoosier Pro Street 29X14.5 tires inside the wheelwells.:yahoo:

I put 01 in my 1999 took all the mounts off put the ranger mounts on. It made the rear track width same as the front.

I got 01 mountaineer at insurance auction my V8 and other parts came from it.

to clear it up some..

yes, you can bolt the axle in without flipping the spring perches. it will drop the rear of the truck considerably (4-5"). you will still need to have the rangers shock mounts welded to the 8.8 axle tube. unless you lower the front 2-3", the rear will be lower than the front.
