8.8/D44 front axle hybrid

why not just put a 9 inch in both ends? it would be alot easier and stronger and you could use the same style 3rd member if you used a low pinion rear and fliped the axle up frotn to be a high pinion.... you still would have to weld on all the steerin and what not but I think that would be better than screwing with an 8.8.. and the 8.8s holding 800+hp are nothing left from a stock 8.8 except maybe the housing... but they even plate that.

a flipped 9" up front you have to deal with custom oiling stuff since the bearings are no longer sitting in the oil bath.

Plus I Dont have gears for a 9 inch, and I already have the rear axle.

i think it sounds like a great plan and your not really losing a whole lot if something breaks. it sounds like you have most of the parts. i dont see why all these people are so scared of hard work. i guess thats what sepereated us machinists from the rest of the fabricators. our work is tedious

ive actually thought about doing this but i didnt have all the parts on hand.

good luck and keep us updated.

I got a D44 for a killer deal, All im waiting on is the 8.8. I think im going try and find an 8.8 from a full size to give me a little bit more axle tube to play with.

Im going to do a build thread, as soon as I get the 8.8.
