8.8 Compatibility Question

Hey guys,

I am currently in the process of throwing a 8.8 under my rig. It is from a '98 explorer, 31 spline. The problem is, it came with no brakes. I am talking to someone who has the caliper brackets, calipers, everything; but it is from a 2002+ explorer. Does anyone know if these axles have the same tube size/caliper bracket bolt pattern?

an explorer 8.8 is an explorer 8.8 or a sport trac all the parts are swap about. even the f150 brakes will work as long as you have a 31 spline axle the parts will work. same with a 28 spine. you can put mustang 8.8 brakes on a ranger axle

But the problem with the 02 and newer explorers is...they are IRS. Therefore the calipers bolt to the spindle and not the actual axle. I don't think anything will work for him.

Ummm... No dude, F-150s have totally different lug patterns None of that will work.

If the parts he's got are from a '02 or '03 Explorer Sport (or Sport-Trac), those brakes should fit your '98 axle. However anything from the '02 & up 4-door models which have the IRS will not.
