the new 31 spline 8.8 axle can handle how much power ???

starting from what year where they install ?
and what exact modele should I keep an eye out for ?
I believe that they were all equiped with disc brake ?
are they all with torsen diff ?

You asking about 31 spline Ranger or Explorer 8.8s? And what size tires do you plan to put on it?

8.8 with a spool and 40 spline Mark Williams axles can take 1000 HP.

It doesn't answer your question but I thought it was neat. The car eventually went to a 9 inch but more for the ease of gear changes than durability.

31 spline axle ... from a ranger

tires maybe drag radial or something like that

power: 400/400 from a flat 4 :icon_thumby:

The Explorer and Ranger 31 spline axles are the same, except for the brakes.

They are stronger than a 9" in STOCK form. The 8.8 31 spline with a good Detroit Locker would be good for 500+ horsepower.

The only Ranger with a 31 spline would be one of the FX4's, some would have that Torsen differential in the 4.10 gear but no disc brakes. Even the old 8" rear end can take 400 crank hp. You sure aren't going to hurt the 8.8 with only 400/400. The Shelby GT500 runs the 31 spline rear end. What is this rear going into anyway?

Very specifically, those are the Rangers you will find the 31 spline axle in (all with the Torsen L/S diff).

It would be much easier to find the 8.8" from any '91-'01 Explorer. Main difference is you would have to relocate the spring perches on it if it's to go into a Ranger (and if it's going in something else, then this shouldn't matter, you gotta do it either way). Ex axles will be either open diff, or will have the Traction-Lok L/S.

Mac --> the axle will be going into a 89-92 ranger rwd body powered by a flat 4 !

what axle code should a look for when buying one ??

If check in the tech library ... there is no info about the axle code except for the k6 8.8 4.10 L/S

could some one please post the full tag description :icon_thumby:

The 8.8 axle strength is better than the 9" or the stock dana 44.

With mods can handle much more power than you could possibly need

to handle some real power the 8.8 needs to be welded up and braced...ive built several 8.8's that are under 800+hp mustangs

very true, welding in the pressed in tubes and adding saddle girdle are a must with big HP

also running braces from the front of the of the housing back to the tube

never seen that before got any pics?

one i built about a year ago...
