I bought axles that were on a 78 f250 i was wondering what to look for to identify what axles they are. I looked in the axles guide but i still not sure what i have.

the rear is a dana 60 30 spline shafts. The front is either a hp 44 or a hp 60. If its got ball joints its a 44. kingpins and its a 60. The gears are either 3.54 or 4.10 they only came with 2 sets of gears in a 4x4 those years. hope this helps.

The rear should be a full-float 60.

Front:
If the truck was a supercab, then it should be a 60 reverse cut, 35 spline inners, 30 spline outers, 5-332x u-joints.

If it was a regular cab then it should be a D44 reverse cut.

Not all super cab stucks have a 60 front. Also some regular cab f250s had a 60 front. Best bet would be to post a pic.

If you can't identify whether or not the axle has King pins or ball joints, then measure the hubs. 60's have Ø4" hubs, while the 44's are much smaller.

well the front i found is a 44 i found were to look and cleaned it off and found the number the back i didnt find any numbers. Thanks for your guys help

the back is a dana 60. So two hunderd for both axles is a good price then ? then front axle dosent have selectable hubs.

$200 is not too bad. You can remove the drive flanges or whatever you want to call them from the front and replace them with locking hubs...it's pretty easy

i plan on removing the drive flangs i just have look around for a set of lock outs for it .

Save at least one of those drives so when you blow up a hub, you can still get off the trail. three legged dogs usually keep going in circles:icon_rofl:
