7.5L_STX: SAS, Big Block Swap

well the steering is now done :yahoo:. next up is making a track bar bracket. i will have some pics up of both when its done.

on a side note, it feels so good to actually see some progress on this beast.

One thing I didn't do when making my track bar mount was to tie it into the frame from more than one point.

Here are a couple pictures of what I am talking about.

Here is mine...

This is Kyle M's track bar mount. Notice how it is gusseted on one side, welded to the side and bottom of the frame, then another support is crossed over to the crossmember. The Ranger frame is weaker than the track rod needs it to be, and the steering will "push" the track rod off the frame by ripping out around the welds.

Here is another one

Just don't want anyone to make the same mistake i did. Looks great brother.

i think i want to make mine bolt on, i really dont like welding to the frame. and connecting it to the other frame rail looks like a good idea, something i wouldnt have thought of. i can tell the mount is going to need to be really strong, especially with my wide tires. after i got the drag link in i thought cool, ill be able to turn it. no dice, the whole frame just moves over the axle when i turn the wheel lol.

and heres my steering setup (yes the drag link is cut and sleeved) and the track bar isnt hooked up yet, im gonna wait until the engines in and the truck settles, and those coil mounts are only half done, there will be another piece of 1/4 inch plate coming from those plates down to the axle.
