Hey guys. New here. 2019 Jetta got tboned and totaled out so I bought the cheapest 4x4 truck I could find which happened to be a 2004 Ford Ranger. It is not mint by any means but it was $2k and that is what I had. Might need a trans since flushing and fluids didn't change the weird Ranger Noise as YouTube calls it. See the link below for said noise. Need to remediate some rust and give it a nice rattlecan job.

Somebody put a Mazda B-series bed on that, nice!

Welcome to TRS!

It looks like someone cared very much. What rust? Is that the spots I see on the driver's side? Looks like water from a fresh wash.

What fluid did you put in the transmission? It takes a Ford Mercon something ATF. Don’t quote me on the actual fluid designation. Go by the owners manual. If you put gear oil in, it won’t be right.

There’s rust that’s not through the paint on the rockers that you don’t see in the pics. It’s subtle from further away.

It was Mercon V ATF.

Welcome.

Does the transmission sound go away when the clutch pedal is pushed in? Just trying to determine if the issue is internal to the transmission. It could be that the throw out bearing is bad. You might have to crawl under the truck to determine if it is in the case or forward in the bell housing.

The sad thing about the transmission design is that even if it is a throw out bearing, the transmission will need to be dropped so you can get at the slave cylinder.
