Hello everyone, i'm new here i have an issue with my 98 ranger, my rear wheel and axle shaft fell off of my 98 ranger and the cause was the axle bearing, my issue is that i have replaced the bearing and axle seal and i can't get the half shaft inf far enought to put the c clip back on. Any idea why?

I assume you took the king pin out.

I've read about the king pin but since this is on the passenger side and the king pin is on the driver side i didn't know how it would cause it to not go in. This is the first time i've worked on a rear end that's why i'm clueless

The king pin is NOT on the passenger or driver side.

The king pin rides in the middle of the carrier and has 2 jobs. It keeps the spider gears in place and it keeps the axle shafts from moving in so that the C-clips can't fall out.

You need to pull the cover off and remove the center pin from the diff so the shaft can go in the whole way.

Is the king pin the silver thing in the middle? It looks like i will have to take the pinion out and punch what i believe is the king pin out. Does this sound right to you? I can't seem to upload a picture do to the size of the image.

Use photo bucket to put pictures in your posts.

You did find the king pin, you don't punch it out. Get the rear wheels off the ground (If you haven't already), drop the trans in N, and spin the whole thing over until you can see the other side of the carrier. There is a little bolt, about 5/16" that you take out, then the king pin slides out nicely. If it doesn't, just rock a wheel back and forth gently, it will come loose.

Thanks for the help, i will attempt it this weekend and let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
