7.5 and 8.8 axle shafts

so.....why dont u do what all the mustang guys do and use the LSC parts?

as in a Mark VII LSC which is a fox body car and of which all parts will bolt into a mustang....so theres ur 5 lug stuff and 4wheel disc brakes

That kit is the Mark VII/SVO rotor swap. I've found that the hub and dustcap is too long to fit some of the SN95+ factory wheels. If you look on the link they give some examples of known rims that work with it......the Cobra R's are the only ones on the list that raise an eyebrow for me, and I can get those in 4 lug. I had my heart set on Bullitt wheels. We'll see what happens.....

lol...if someone has a set of bullits for me to test ill put em on my LSC and let u know lol:icon_thumby:....even if they dont quite fit im sure any respectable machine shop could fix the hub clearance in the center without comprimising integrity to fir

There's an idea! :icon_idea:

lol, i love that car, 170k miles on the stock motor, trans has been gone through, mild shift kit and stall converter in it, should see the look on peoples faces as i catch second at about 5500 rmp's and the assend slides out lol

not to thread jack, but ive found buying a LSC motor is usually the best place to get a donor motor for a mustang, the stock automatic has it shifting 4400 rpm's so u know even if it was hammered on(by someone in drive) for all its life it had never seen above 4400rpms lol.....which is a shame for a roller HO

its negotiates its way to a 13.89 1/4mi stock, i was IMPRESSED

You cannot put 31 spline axles in a 28 spline housing, for any number of reasons.

A 31 spline carrier from an 8.8 will swap directly into a 28 spline housing, as far as I know. Based on swaps from 3.8mustang.com, v6power.net, mustang corral, mustangworld.com, motorsportmustangs.com, moddedmustangs.com, insanemustangs.com etc. Like I said I dont know if it is possible with the truck axles, but it was with mustang 8.8's.

OP I know you werent wanting to swap carriers, I was mentioning that the 7.5 axles if they are 28 spline are a direct fit for 28spline 8.8s, The carrier swap was for the off chance you chose to find a 31 spline 8.8, you would need to used the 31 spline axles and carrier and not the 7.5 axles. Didnt mean to confuse anyone.

It looks like a good set youve chosen though.

I'd like to get that set, but I'm too cheap to buy that rear kit. There are several Rangers with 7.5's for the plucking at Pick N' Pull. I Will probably get brand new front rotors though unless I happen to find a decent set on a Mark VII.

OK, I'm pretty sure I've read on TRS somewhere that the axle shafts themselves are the same for the 7.5 and the 8.8 rears. I can't seem to to find that info anywhere now.

To be honest, I am looking into doing a 5 lug conversion on my Mustang, and I have no guilt dismantling 7.5's, but I don't want to dismantle any 8.8's for my cause.

the axle shafts you want for this are the 1983-92 Ranger or Bronco2 DRIVERS SIDE axle shaft

AllanD is right (as always :D ), you need 2 drivers side axles from a 1st or 2nd gen.
If your dead set on Bullit wheels:
Buy SN95 spindles, hubs, brakes and brake hoses. (go with the 94-95 Cobra 13" brakes!!)
IIRC, The SN95 balljoint is a little shorter then the fox so you will need 2 washers under the nut.

Dont quote me on this, its been 10 years since I did this swap.

EDIT: I found this for you.

Wow, that was very informative. Thank you for the link snoranger. I'm very interested in the rear disc setup. It's very hard to find SN95's (hell, it's hard to find a Mustang period) in the yards around here, but I'm going to check into it. I usually plan a project long before it takes place, because I'm a cheap bugger and nickle and dime at the yards and such. I already have some brand new Fox front control arms I was planning on putting on my car, so we'll see what happens.
