anyone here good with 99 or newer 7.3's?

isnt there a site like trs for diesel 250's and 350's?

smokes like crazy when cold (smells like raw fuel) clears up slightly when warm starting kinda hard, loss of power, kinda skips seems like it has atleast 1 dead cyl, poor fuel mileage

im thinkin i have a few injectors goin bad, or mabey a fuel pump...

likely bad plugs and probably shitty fuel and filter.

plug it in and see if it is clearer...or are you already plugged in?

get some beru plugs after you test them....get a shop manual. the plugs on these are under the valve covers and have a special pass thru gasket for the electrical connectors which you need to be careful with...they also have hi power to the injectors so use caution.

I know em pretty good (both the older IDI's and the Power Strokes). Worked on em for two years. I still work on a few now but i now mostly work on the bigger stuff.

But as for a good web forum this ones decent

What year and model and mileage

could be a few things actually by that description. The injectors are pretty good on these engines and dont often need replacing. Glow plugs last a good lenght of time too for the most part but thats the FIRST place id look for a hard start and lots of smoke when cold. BUT if it persists after warm-up its not gona be the plugs.

The EARLIER aka 1994.5-1996 7.3L had problems with the IDM (injector Drive Modual) filling with washer fluid (run off) and shorting out. This would cause the engine to start looseing cylinder after cylinder.

Other wise id look more into a valve cover gasket/wire harness (the harness likes to rott if it leaks oil and you end up with a short and missfire).

Another common issue in colder climates is the turbo has warm up valve on the back of it that closes after the engine starts to create added back preshure to assist it warming the engine u. offten times in colder climates this valve gets jammed closed causing VERY low power and a ruff running engine. usually you can fix this easily enuff with no parts.

likley shitty fuel pitted injectors as a possibility. bad injectors will cause these issues no doubt.

regardless even in cool nights once below 50 deg the first starts use the plugs and need them to run cleanly. usually you fla guys can get away without them though...

plug it in anyway and see if it helps....if it does then test the plugs for sure

well if the coolant is loe or its colder it will engage the ebp and run hard till warmed up....up here in -30 ville the ebp is a saviour and a m-f-er...

Sh*tty Fuel? did it just start occuring after the last tank or two? I know my truck cuts out a few cylinders with there is bad fuel in it, its a gas but My IDI 7.3 hasn't had a problem till this winter but that was from still having summer fuel in the tanks at -20.

Check the air filter if doesn't get air it could do that maybe? And the Fuel filter?

no, its been doin it for a couple weeks and its gettin worse...
