I have 1993 7.3 diesel with 169,000 miles. Recently bought this ride and is in stunning condition. The engine runs perfect with one exception. Every now and then when we start it, it will make a pretty deep thumping sound. It goes away after 2 or 3 seconds of running. I seem to remember on my last IDI diesel some would say that noise can be from injectors. It only makes this noise when it is first started, seems to be only on cold days and maybe one out of 20 times we start it. I would like to rule out a rod, cause it is not a "bang" or a "clank" and it is not consistent. And because that would really suck. It is very audible though. If one or more injector was dripping over night that could sound that way right? Once the sound has gone away in a few seconds, the engine runs and sounds perfect, gets stunning mileage
