'68 Galaxie 500 - to buy or not to buy?

My uncle has a red '69 Impala convertable with a 396... it is more like driving a boat than a car. Everything is numb and mushy. :icon_confused:

Never been around a Galaxy though.

That's how all cars were back then.

Sounds like a good car to me. It's the body work that gets expensive on them. Lots of places have the peices to do the interior, Dearborn Classics is one.

I also found this one while I was looking around.

1966 Ford Galaxie $5000 obo

1966 Ford Galaxie for sale. Vehicle has a 390 CI original engine with four barrel carb and automatic tranny with floor shifter that runs very strong. It's also got true dual exhaust from the headers to chrome tips at the back end with flowmasters, so it's pretty loud. The car has a clean GA title and is currently registered. The seats are newly upholstered with airplane style seatbelts, new headliner and new carpeting. The car also has a new coat of paint and no surface rust. The previous owner also made sure to shave off all the excess chrome badges, so it looks very clean and pretty mean. I purchased the car two months ago and have not driven it much and is always garage kept. I don't have the time or funds to really make it perfect, but would say, that it needs a new dash cover, new door panels and weatherstripping throughout and you can make it a daily driver that'll turn a lot of heads. Feel free to call me at 770-266-7856 or 912-596-0338 if you have any questions. $5000 obo.

I'm not a huge fan of the auto, but 95% of them are autos. I can always change it out later for a T-56. I like the headlight style on the pre-68's a lot better, and they were a bit smaller as well.

I love that black one. They have a teal one just like it for sale down the road from me. Not sure how much though...

I always thought the 390 was a bit of a boat anchor, but it did have more punch than the 352 (now that was a boat anchor)...

I go with the idea that if you want it and can afford it...get it!

Personally, though, I can't afford that kind of luxury so I don't dream about having a garage full of antiques...although I do keep that XKE somewhere near my thoughts when I buy lottery tickets...

A stock 390 is like a 302 2V, throw a good cam, heads and intake on either to wake them up. Neighbor has three of the '62-63's with the 406 in them, one with the tri-power. He's also got a '66' Fairlane with the 4V 427, all in the pole barn. His nice cars he keeps in a garage.
