Well here's an annoying issue. My 6 disc changer in my 97 stopped working the other day. Just happened suddenly. I turned the truck off and it was working, turned it back on and nothing. I can hear the discs shuffle in the player and can hear them spin up but then nothing happens. No static through the speakers or anything, just nothing. After about 10 or 15 seconds the system tries to go to the next disc and the same thing happens. Once it goes through all 6 the head unit reads "No CD." I really like this player and would like to keep it. Any ideas if this is a simple fix or a common problem to these players? Here's a few pictures if they help at all.

any reset buttons on the unit, or try taking it out the cd holder, and see if something got on the lense, or unplug the unit and plug it back in.

I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in. Didn't see any reset button. How do you get to the lens? I've never taken one of these apart before.

well i would open the case just yet, but if you can take the cd holder out and. and if you can look in side and see the lens from the big hole in the the front, and maybe give it a good blow, (makes me feel better) or just use and air chuck, or can of air. if your gonna use an air chuck dont aim directly at it, or to close to it. there are real fragile moving parts in there that let the lens focus, and you can push them way out of wak,

Thanks. I'll give it a shot and see if it works.

Also what was the availability on these players? If I do end up needing a new one what is the chance I could find one at the junkyard?

i would have to say yes, but i really dont know, and id have to see the truck before you get it, if all the windows are busted out and its been there a while i wouldnt pick it up.

Well opening it up and blowing compressed air through didn't help. I went to see if a car audio place could repair it and they said no, I'd have to order a new one from Ford or get something different. I like this player and the stock head unit makes it that much less likely that someone will try to break in and take it. So it's off to the junkyard tomorrow to try and find one. The only other option is to have Ford order me a new one. Thanks for your help man.

not a problem wish i could have helped more

Update: EBay comes through again. Found one used for under $100 out of an explorer. Bolted right up to the Ranger's mounting brackets. Only weird thing is that when the truck is shut off the CD Player restarts the last song you were listening to the next time you turn it on. The old one didn't do that.
