5x7-6x8 I know it gets old...

no, like I said mb quartz was an odm or original design manufacturer aka they made products for jl to put their names on.

oh i never knew that, never much cared for jl but good to know

first im drunk second amps, for that i like alpine there good. i only use them

^ wish I was.... Ok thanks guys I will do some digging and look for an Alpine to start with. I'll post up some pics soon of my install however it may end up so that you all can see what this thread has produced. Again thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but by all means don't stop on my account, this has been great fun.

YEAH, I finally get to drink beer!!! And it's 8:52 in the am. I've looked last night for some Alpine amps and I think I 've found what I need. Man, I think that all this typing will pay off well. I can't wait until my ears bleed, so that I truly can ignore my wife when the time presents its self!

i had 1200 watts rms at 4 ohms running through a saab coupe and my ears never bled. Bass hit so hard it gave me chest pains but <1% distortion even when turned up to just before the mechanicle limit of the system. Of course I could have replaced the weakest link in the system because the subs can take much more than I threw at them but it was already too loud for me to listen to. I dont play anything about murmur volume anymore though.

just get a amp that puts out close to 150w rms at 4ohms and youll be fine

lol funny you say that 1000Wrms in my truck and unless the window is down, the vol in like 1/8 the way up

I'm getting a little 400w mono pioneer amp for my truck for $152 at my local stereo shop. I like it cause its nice and small only maybe 8''x8'' or close to it. Perfect fit for a single cab truck . Just have to add I don't know about other parts of the country but around my area JL, Alpine, MB quarts, Diamond audio, clarion, boston, and mtx are some of the higher end stuff. JL is probably the top dog in the toledo, OH area and are priced comparably to other higher end stuff around $120 for a pair of 5x7 door speakers. Pioneer, kenwood, and Rockford are good stuff but more entry level around here unless you get their higher end stuff like pioneers premiere series. Hell even Memphis audio and Fusion have good sounding stuff. My buddy is actually a sales rep for Fusion and I've seen some nice systems using their stuff. I don't tell anyone what to get, I just let them know what I use. Everybody has their own opinions on what is good and hell half of the companies that were good get bought out and their stuff gets cheapened. I've heard that kicker got bought out and their stuff sucks now and I use to love kicker. stuff. I haven't found nor heard anything to support that MB quarts ever made speakers for JL audio though. And I hope no one is getting JL confused with JBL or JVC stuff which does suck.

kicker is still the same company, just moved production overseas just like almost every other manufacturer, like jl

mtx is not high end

mtx is starting to make some higher end stuff now. they have some square subs now that hit just as hard as the kicker L7's at a much lower cost. I forgot to mention eclipse in that higher end devision. I have an eclipse 8454 head unit and love it. The 8 volt preouts and the 7 ban eq are awesome. I also have two eclipse highs amps and a couple pairs of 6.5's that are great. I use to run 3 S12L7's on a poweracoustik 3000D amp which is not high end at all but at $500 for a high powered amp I'd have to say it worked better than anyone would give it credit for. I did 145 spl at 44hz in my tahoe with this setup.

that fact that they are square is almost meaningless, its a marketing thing because people think they tend to look cooler side by side in a box.
