5x7-6x8 I know it gets old...

out of a 50 watt head unit the quality difference between a pioneer and a jl are minimal. its really hard to tell how well something performs when its severely underpowered.

That is why I posted the thread the way I did "I want good sound". I have no desire to fill up my ext. cab with speakers,

And you dont need to. Any good quality 5 X 7 or 6 X 8 will give you good sound. And you can make a few improvements. An amplifier would be a great improvement. Find something small in the 75-watt ( or More)RMS range. A two channel amp will work, just put it on the front doors.

Dynomat the doors. Big improvement. Think ouf it like this, the only thing we want vibrating is the speaker. ( I even have Dynomat in the roof )

A baffle will also help improve sound.

You can find these cheap in any wrecking yard, 88 and 89 T-Birds had these on the rear speakers.

You can get incredible sound without a sub.

NEVER put a amp in the doors. and those baffles only inhibit the speakers performance. a properly deadened and sealed door is all you need.

It's funny, I gave up on this thread. I replaced all four speakers yesterday as a matter of fact. I went with Pioneer TS-A6872R 6x8, 3 way, 240 watt speakers as the factory replacements. They were just what the doctor ordered. They have excellent highs, good mid bass. I believe they will pair up good with the MB QUART 8" sub I have ordered. I said in an earlier post that I didn't want to fill up my ext. cab, so I plan on either replacing the 60/40 with leather buckets, or doing the cut of the 60/40 to allow me to build a custom box that will go in the console area. I used the post in the tech forum that shows step by step with pictures, and did all four in about 90 mins (while drinking beer). I don't need/want a system for competition, just a little noise that I can cruise to. I don't even care if you can hear it outside the truck, because if you want to listen to the radio, then buy your own. So far I would HIGHLY recommend these speakers to anyone that just needs a factory upgrade! I'll keep you all informed as to the progress with the seats and console conversion.

if you can't hear the difference between speakers, even on a 50 watt head unit you are tone death.

why is he going to overpay on speakers he isnt amping, its almost pointless the minimal quality he would gain doesnt equal the cost of one jl 6x8. and I still think he should have done a cheap 2 way set up and run wiring to amp later.

this thread makes me want to punch my self in the face over and over,
is there a diff between oem and the ones he bought yes. can you tell the diff between thoes and a set of alpines or JL nooooooooo its rms is 40 watts hes putting out 25w if hes lucky . you dont reallly need to putt hat thing behind the speaker it makes it more work for your 25w to do any way. would i user deadner in this app.....nope, i think it takes more then that to make stuff really rattle, or i would edge it like i did but the whole door is over kill. more so read your audience and figuer out what THERE end result is to be. you wont be in it every day..... i really think he gives two shits about dyno mat. he was just looking for some info.

Damn guys put away the knives and grenades!!!! I just saw two pics of custom enclosures that mount where the jack compartment is, so that is probably where the sub is going. Ok now lets all throw a few punches over the 8" MB Quart sub, good or bad? I got it new for $60. Let the games begin.

mb quart used to be pretty decent before it was bought out by maxxsonics, which makes crunch, autotek & hifonics which are considered "budget quality" equipment. ive never heard one of there subs so i cant say much.

mb quartz was an odm of JL, they are a great brand with very decent prices

sorry i dont mean to get ranty, but some people on here forget who there talking to. and telling people to do this or do that..... some one may blow out a factory speaker and just ask if "this'" is good and they get a responce of well tear your car apart spend $5ooo cover everything in gold and you need this and that..... its like just answer his question, if the person has money and want to get in to the audio field ill tell him how to spend $5000 on a really nice system but tho people are few and far between, most people want a lil better or a nice round sound, and they get told wip out the CC, iv been doing this for 9 years the one thing iv learned is people try and get the best bang ffor the buck and they want to hear it when they roll the window down. im not here to make money off you. i just want to help you and answer your questions. and maybe give you info your not asking but should be. and thats my big thing.....if your asking simple questions you dont know alot about the field and i want to give you all the info you need to be informed about what your doing, and let your wallet and creativity guide you.

You have so many options with that sub. A well-designed enclosure for an 8 can outperform a 10 or 12 in a crappy prefab. How much space are you willing to give up for that enclosure?

I'd still deaden your doors to get more midbass output.

You guys are great late night, bored at work entertainment!!! I'm thankful for all that have contributed to this post. It's funny how this has gone so far, when I thought it would be dead in the water. Yeah, I'm going to do a simple box that sits in the jack location for now so lets work on the amp for the sub. Again, not elcheapo but not SEMA stereo. The sub is an 8" MB that is 300 watts, 150 RMS, and 4 ohm. Should I send it back and get the 2ohm? I have no idea about the true difference. Ok talk about that and the amp. (but try not to kill each other) HA HA HA!
