5th gear problem

I recently purchased a 1994 ranger with a manual 5 spd transmission(m5r1). Everything was working fine until on the way to work it malfunctioned and I had it towed home.
Pulled the transmission, took it apart.
Found the pocket bearing between the input shaft and the main shaft destroyed, almost fusing the 2 shafts together. It was stuck in 4th gear. Guess the previous owner let it run out of oil.
Got the ends of the 2 shafts cleaned up. Replaced the bearing, replaced the seals and put everything back together. Installed a new clutch/pressure plate and clutch slave cylindar.
Reinstalled the transmission and it will not shift into 5th on the fly. Shifts into everything else.
Since everything else is working correctly, I would have to assume (we all know about assumptions) that the problem is localized to the 5th gear/reverse part of the transmission.
Not sure what to do now, or what to check.
Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how much life you're going to get out of the transmission to begin with by just "cleaning up" surfaces after a pocket bearing failure. As for your 5th gear problem, it is not uncommon to accidentally install the synchronizer slider for 5th/rev upside down. I've done it before (mostly after having too much to drink and deciding to assemble a transmission) and there are alot of people on here who have made the same mistake too. There is also an eccentric on the side of the transmission which is used for adjustment and you can try turning that just to see what happens but my money is on the slider being installed backwards.

I was finally able to get out and take the tail end off the traini. Sure enough the syncro was backwards.
Took it out reversed things, put it back in and it works.
I am quite pleased.
