5spd shifter peoblem

we converted our 87 to a 5 spd. but the shifter that came with the trans is shot it has alot of slop in it. we checked the ford garage and they wont 200.00 for the whole thing they said that is the only way to get it. is there some easy fix to it so we dont have to buy the whole thing? thanks for the help..

done alot of transmissions in my time and im not 100% sure if rangers are the same as toyotas but on the end of the shifter it has a plastic bushing that when it gets old and cracked with cause alot of play in the shifter..maybe look into that and i know the dealer sells the bushing for cheap.

it was a factory motor and trans out of an 87 ranger. not sure i thought maybe it was a mazda trans. there is nothing there to hold the shifter to the trans like a plate or anything. you can pull up on the shifter and it will lift right out. if someone can send me a picture of your top trans where the shifter set in the trans so i can see what im missing. and give me a idea of wht i need to fix this shifter, or if you have a shifter for sale let me know thanks

If your transmission is a Mazda and it's the stick that's wobbly, then this should do it.

is the shifter tower plastic? if it is it's a fm145.

the shifter is metal, that is all we have, there is no tower or anything like that.
