5sp tranny on the fritz

UPDATE: I got I junk yard tranny for $180. Took the top cover off to inspect it, looks great for only having "75,000" miles on it. Heres the problem... I could never shift the gears using the shift stick but when I had it open I could slide the gears easy. Now I have the truck bolted up it still won't move into any gears and when I let out the clutch I feels like I'm in 2nd gear when it seems to be in neutral. Wft?

You will need to take the transmission back out. When you was either moving the gears around or reinstalled the top cover you pushed it into gear. Sorry to have to tell you that.

ahhh my luck. But when i got the transmission from the salvage yard it was still not shifting into any gears. only left or right like it was in neutral but couldnt go into any gear. shouldnt i be able to move gears even if its out of the truck?

You should be able to. But if the yard took the cover off they may have locked it in a gear without you even realizing it was done.

man im getting good at pulling my tranny. i can drop it in 20 mins lol. well i was messing with the top cover that moves the gears and the middle one will not move at all. i can move the two others but not the middle. is that normal? i think im going to go get my old tranny and switch the top covers and see what happens

FINALLY got her running and driving! i drove it to work and when i got off the clutch pedal was frozen in its place. its leaking fluid from the slave quick disconnect like a bitch. Ive come to conclusion that my clutch master cylinder is done crap. anyone beg to differ?

First, make sure the quick connect is fully seated in the slave cylinder connector.

ive been looking around and i guess its a pain in the ass to remove the pilot bearing also

I guess you are already past this part, but if not or if you ever need to do it again, the easiest way I know of to remove a pilot bearing from the end of the crankshaft is to find a punch that just fits in the hole in the bearing. If you have one that is close, you can shim it out by wrapping it with a couple of layers of masking tape. When you have a snug fit between the punch and the pilot bearing, remove the punch and then fill the pilot bearing hole up with grease. Now put the punch over the grease in the hole and smack it with a hammer (MAKE SURE YOU ARE WEARING EYE PROTECTION!!!!!) The hydraulic pressure of the grease will press the bearing out of the pocket on the end of the crankshaft.
