Ok I have used the search found some info but not what I am looking for. I have a 2000 ford ranger 5r55e 4wheel drive. Here is my problems, the truck started out jerking while in drive at certian rpm and mph. Then it started having the delay in shifting, from R-D or D-R. Then when you put it in any gear the shifter feels really weak you can wiggle the shifter a mile in drive with lots of slack more than a new one would have anyways. The truck doesn't kick down as fast as it use to and more often it doesn't even kick down. Then my last agrivation is when I put in park it still doesn't catch. Roll and clink clink clink. Thank god for the park brake. I have adjusted the shifter cable on the trans. What do yall think? Some history on the truck. I bought a chip from Aspen back a few years ago, the truck jerked really hard so I took out the chip. I only ran it about a week before I got rid of it. After the chip it started the searching or jerking in gear at certain rpms and mph. I have ALWAYS changed the filter every 30,000 miles. Truck has 137,000 miles, Time to get a new tranny? Info please...

What speeds did it jerk at? My transmission was fine in low grears, but it started to jerk too, only in overdrive. Took it in and found out the torque converter was shot, only 1200 for a rebuild and it runs stronger than ever before now.

The park problem has to deal with the locking gear and a peg not engaging into that gear in the rear of the tranny.

A rebuild is probably what you are going to need, just take it to a transmission specialist to have them look at it first.

Yeah I have some issues I do. When I am driving slow and part throttle around 35mph it lunges and jergs one time like it is trying to shift to a gear that isn't there. The tranny does not slip that I know of. It just has some screwy problems. Like a whole bunch of little stuff that adds up to one big headache. The truck rolling untill it finds PARK the hard way really pisses me off lol

you have a epc solenoid issue, and possibly a valve body gasket is torn and loosing pressure. when you are in drive at a full stop thats actually 1st gear till u feel the shift its 2nd and so on. now you have a delayed drive and reverse engagement and have a 2-3 shift issue right???? then its the epc solenoid that has lost the ability to pressuriez the transmission line pressure and is causing shift concerns... but if your oil smells burnt the u will need a overhaul wich should cost 1400 - 1700 depending on what u want...

Update
I really think that with the up to date service with no abuse. I think that my computer is screwed up. I went ahead and changed my fluid anyways everything still looks new. SOOO I bought a new computer from ford. At a tune of 465.00 plus 100 for core. They want another 250 to match my keys with the new computer but, If I am going to spend 250 I am going to make it count, SO I orded a x3 tuner from Rogue Performance. I am going to turn off Pats. So lets see what this new computer and tuner does to my truck. I will keep yall posted. I still have apointment on the 22nd with ford. They said if this new computer doesn't fix it, it is most likely the seloinds. BUT THEN WHAT, they said if I had bad seloinds it would throw a transmission code. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that this new computer and tuner fixes my little tranny problem. I know that it won't fix the slow to go in d and r and the rolling in park deal. I think alot of it has to do with the cable and the column shifter. One problem at a time tho right? Sure will be nice to feel like my tranmission isn't searching for a gear and shifting at wrong times.

UPdate.. To anyone having issues with there 5r55e and have serviced your tranny like it should since day one I say to you rethink a rebuild and do some trouble shooting. In my case the computer was the issue. Everything is fixed as far as shifting and shuddering at low speeds. I still have a issue with the Park and the column shifter feeling weak but all in due time. So, I replaced my computer with a new one from ford, got a x3 tuner from Fred at Rogue Performance and turned off PATS. I want to say Thank you Fred. You really pulled me out of a bad spot. I told Fred on Wensday Night I need a tuner with all my issues, Thursday morning he had it shipped out to me next day air. Thanks again Fred.

one quesiton whats PATS? and thanks for the info, know ill steer clear of any transmission chips, it seems thats what screwed your computer in the 1st place

Correct me if I am wrong somebody but PATS was used from like 98-01 on ford rangers.....They still use it on some F150s and Mustangs.....Pats is a program in your computer that needs a computer chip in your key to start the truck....I.E. if you go get a copy of your key made with out a chip your truck will NOT start. You have to go to ford and get a blank computer key and program it to your truck...Or in my case if you swap computers your old keys won't match your new computer and your truck Won't start lol.....

Correct on all parts except for the years...PATS wasn't available on Rangers till around 2001 or so and it's still standard on Rangers today. It's also standard equipment on pretty much every new Ford now. It's a feature that I don't forsee Ford ever discontinuing.
