Having some transmission problems so a couple questions.

I have a 97 2wd 4.0 with a 5r55e trans. The trans shifts hard sometimes and bleeds shifts other times. I have seen the seal/plate kit that is said to usually fix the problem, and my buddy who runs a tranny shop told me about it before I brought him the truck. After hooking it up to the computer scanner He said that 1,2,3,and 5th gear showed speed sensor (turbine?)failures and that the kit wouldn't fix it all and I would need to rebuild it. Does this sound right or does the bad seal problem cause this sensor problem? Is he trying to upsell me?

Trans does not slip or do anything odd except the shifting and no lights are on to warn of a problem.

Also I have found a 98 2wd 3.0 being parted out. I read the bolt pattern is different between the 3.0 and 4.0 but the bell housings are interchangeable. Can someone confirm this?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Swapping bell housings on automatics can be done but requires a rebuild, so you wouldn't really be ahead unless bell house was damaged and had to be swapped.
The back side of the bell housing is the casing for the Front Pump(main pump) of the transmission.

I think the transmission guy is probably correct and since he does this for a living you should give his recommendation some weight.
Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion and quote though.

The 4 and 5r series transmission cases are a one piece design, the bellhousing is not removable like tge earlier C series transmissions. The 3.0 case is of no use to you...

Thanks, I was hoping the bell housing was bolted to the trans but if thats not the case I will search for a 4.0 trans.
