hey guys my ranger is a 06 3ltr v6 w/type D automatic trans. started slipping in drive & reverse,i changed the fluid and filter and added some lucus but it didn't help much i have to shift manual 1,2,get it over 35mph and then into drive she will hold down to 35mph and get up to hwy speeds as long as you don't stand on it or it will slip like hell. every now and then the O/D light will flash and then go off. IS IT TRASHED ??????? i was told by a couple tranny shops that i could not just swap the tranny the computer had to be re-flashed codes ect.... is this true or just B.S. to get my $$$$$$$ :bawling:

That is a good link. The 5R55E diary is awesome. I think the 3.0Ls came with the weaker 5R44E, so if it is in fact toast you might want to upgrade to the 5R55E.

Anyway, my bet is a blown gasket on the separator plate.

Ive got a nasty grinding feeling from the pedal and floor board on acceleration that wasnt there before. past 1/2 throttle. Im hoping its not anything bad, but im guessing a burnt valve.

its a bad torque converter...mine did the exact same thing last week

what converter did you replace it with? it's strange if i take off in 1 w/od off and then 2 and drive she runs right through the gears but now NO reverse

i'm starting to think a swap is in order , and after going through all the paper work and door codes and all, im sure its a 5R55E . now new or rebuilt and who can you trust for a rebuitl/reman???????????????

I would first pull the valvebody and do the following...

Superior shift kit
Sonnax boost valve
Replace your EPC solenoid (and check resistance on the rest of your shift solenoids and TC)
And then ofcourse new fluid flush and filter.
Adjust your intermediate and OD bands to FORD specs

I really doubt its the torque converter if you can move it in certain gears but not in others. It really sounds like lost pressure to me. Either a blown gasket or the EPC solenoid is sticking. I wouldn't drive it anymore, though. As it could turn a simple problem into a bigger problem.

mine did exactly that no drive unless u you manually shift 1st and 2nd then third but it acted like it would slip and lost reverse...the builder said when the torque converter came apart it contaminated the tranny and of course it wouldn't push fluid through the valve body
