After rebuilding my auto trans and its still not working the way that I want it to, i want to put a 5 speed in it, I found a mazda b4000 for a decent price, can I pull what I need from that to put in my truck or are the ranger and mazda different thanks in advance

Depends on the engine in each truck, the year of each truck may have something to do with it, and you will get a check engine light on your automatic truck usually, but if you can live with that.

The Mazda and Ranger are fairly well identical, in fact a lot of them were built at Ford plants

The mazda is a 94 and my ranger a 99, is dont have to go through emissions, I can get the whole truck for 1000, didn't know if i was wasting my money and time with it

The manual trans will require different wiring and different pcm to work correctly. The 94 is obd1 and the 99 is obd2, so there is nothing useful in the wiring department that can be switched from one to the other. You will need to find the engine/trans wiring harness from a 99 (including pcm) to put in along with the trans.

You are correct lol I have done the swaps myself. Too bad the later generations didn’t use a 2 piece harness…. Would have made it a lot easier lol

Personally I would go with a matching year or newer on the donor or newer so you have all parts you need. I’ve used a 2010 ranger 5 speed (4.0) in my 1992 ranger (4.0) and it worked fantastic!
