I have a 1989 Ranger 2.3 with a 5 spd and it's hard to get in 5th gear and it jumps out of reverse. My question is will a 5 spd out of a 1996 Ranger 2.3 fit my truck.

As far as I know, the bellhousings will match up all the way to 1998, but I could be wrong.

Are you sure they even changed in 98? I thought the 4 cylinder bellhousing was the same through all 2.3's, 2.5's and the Duratech series.

AFAIK, they changed them in '98. At least with the B-Series from Mazda, there are ten bolts around the bellhousing. But on my '92, I found only 8 bolts around the bellhousing.

I have a 98 2.5 bolted to a 96 M5OD so they should bolt on...

'98 - '00 2.5l is still part of the Lima engine family and share nearly identical blocks as the '95-'97 2.3. In short, the trans will bolt up just find to any Lima 4cyl '74-'00. I believe the '98+ trans doesn't have a spot for the cable speedo though...
