5 spd tranny has water in it!

94 - 5 spd tranny was shot (long story but truck only has 120K). Purchased a used but clean replacement.

Repairs delayed... tranny in weather... now some water in that tranny!

What next? Is it salvageable? If so how?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Flush out all the water with ATF.

Install it, fill it, drive it, drain it, refill it, call it good.

No, no and.....NO! Never put gear oil in an M5OD. ATF only.

Can you open it up yourself to look for rust on the bearings?
That would be bad.
Rust on the gears is no big deal.

believe it or not atf has wonderful cleaning abilities, i use it unsieze engines.
