I recently bought a 92 explorer sport to build a mild wheeling rig. I bought it cheap knowing it quit running a day or two before hand. The po had no idea what it was (ran good and then it just died) and I started looking into it and found the back two cylinders on the driver side are full of gas. Anyone already been down this road? It seems more like maybe a shorted harness after number 5 cylinder, I wouldn't think 2 injectors would go at the same time, and if it was a regulator it would fill all cylinders..... don't have it in a garage yet so figured I would get some opinions. Glad to be back in a 4.0 and this time a 5 spd to boot!

FPRs vacuum hose may attach to that side of the upper intake, it does on Ranger 4.0l, so its not off the table
But easy enough to check that vacuum hose for gasoline

The 5/6 injector ground wires may be shorted to ground
1992 Ranger 4.0l would be Batch fire injection so just 2 ground wires for 6 injectors but Explorer might be sequential injection, if it has a Cam sensor it probably is, or a Calif sold model

The injectors are at the base of the lower intake runners, so very hard for liquid gasoline to transfer between cylinders

And could be blown head gasket between cylinders if liquid gasoline was in one, just before it hydro-locked

Thank you Ron, I looked up the diagram and you were correct. The explorer vac line runs to the the drivers rear of the intake. I got inside and cycled the key a few times went out to the vac tree and pulled one line off and realized that it did not go to the fpr, I followed the correct line and pulled that off and boom fuel pouring out of it. Looks like I am at least one step closer to fixing the issue! If you weren't in Canada I'd buy ya beer or two! Lol

Good work (y)

Not a hard fix

Just for future reference for anyone else. I replaced the regulator, changed the oil, plugs, and wires and she starts up and runs like a champ! Not what should come out of a vac line!...

Why can't I stop watching that?
