i want to put a v8 in my 1996 i4 ranger. its my daily driver so i wanna be able to do this as a weekend swap. but before i do it i want a parts list and a general price range for what it will cost.
i know there's quite a few threads on here with what you need but its a little misleading for me. im only 17 so i dont have tons of money so before i do it i wanna be able to get all the parts together before i start on tearing down my daily driver and having it out of commission.
thanks in advanced for your input.

welll.... we do have a search feature that will answer all of your questions. use it and abuse it like a dirty whore. Hang out in the V8 Engine conversions forums. learn from them, apply the success stories to your own rig. Post pictures and what you learned from the process that you couldn't find on here. (altho as much as this topic has been covered, I can't say that will be much...)

Oh and weekend swap with no prior experience? fahgeddabout it... plan on having another vehicle around to chase after the last minute "oh crap I forgot _____" parts and whatnot.

and money wise, if you are seriously strapped for cash, (hey you are 17, I am sure that it is not spewing out of your Ranger, at least my 97 Ranger does not spew cash...) you might want to rethink this project for later down the road. unless you can get a running/ working donor vehicle with all the stuff you will need (a rolled or tboned explorer sounds like a good choice) for very cheap.

I agree with 97. Until you know a lot more about the outs and ins of swaps you aren't going to do it in a week-end....well, probably not. And if you do you won't have slept much. I will second having a whole running parts donor, it will save you a lot of money, and in the end you sell the left over for scrap. Find a 5.0 explorer or [I think] mountaineer. The v-8 swap forum will have exactly the info you're looking for. If you can't afford the donor, you can't afford the swap. And I also agree with having another car to daily drive just in case.
My guess for cost is minimum $1,000.00 once you figure in all the incidentals.
Good luck,

Richard

My swap took me 2 weeks to do and that was putting 8 hours a day into and planning for 9 months that included gathering parts and researching...research research and did I mention research?

Mine was about as simple as it could get for dropping in and going. Carbed, manual trans, etc.. and is all with as little wiring to do as possible since I had wires already run for a few things such as the fuel pump.

i think a 17 year old can do this in 30 hours.

not any 17 year old, but ones with common sense and this new fangled interworldnet shit have it allot easier then we did back in the 80's.

well i got a friend that runs a junkyard so i think i can get a donor vehicle for pretty cheapp

what setup do you want to run?

get it all together and running on the ground so you know whats what.

if you want to do a simple running swap you can do it pretty easily in a weekend.

but it will take a few weekends of prep before the swap to make it go as easy as possible.
