in a 2007? are you insane? buy a first gen to put a cobbled V8 into....... seriously, who buys a 2007 Ranger for a daily driver and puts a 1984 carbed cobbled V8 / C6 into it.........

Thats like putting a cobbled V8 into a 2007 ranger ....... it can be done but why would you want to?

how about a 4.6L/4r70w combo or a 32 valve 5.4L from a Navigator...... something that can make 500 rwhp with nothing more than a custom tune.

I don't get it, I really don't. for a cool daily driver most people go with older styling with modern technology for the drive train........ why would you go backwards.........

I think you need to have your head examined above all else. First, the 302 you describe isn't worth more than the scrap value, second, no one in their right mind would do a swap in a 2 year old truck.

You must know one hell of a tuner to be able to go from 300 hp at the crank to 500 rwhp. Even the Shelby GT-500 is only rated at 540 hp crank (very conservative) and that's with the blower, twin fuel pumps, intercooler, CAI, 52 lb injectors and so on.
That 302 block/motor? really is not worth the gas money it would take to the salvage yard, bad, bad idea. Both the C-4/C-6 are not a good choice for a DD either unless you never get out of town, no OD.

I know a dude that thats making 1000+ hp and nearly 3000 pounds of torque from a 3406e cat with only a tune and a cam bump..... he has been adjusting his tune since he bought the tractor in 1999 and still get over 6mpg with it so yeah ..... 500 rwhp is possible from DOHC 5.4L with just a tune.

you can say what you want. I have seen the dyno, I have seen the weight it can pull. I have even run heavy loads with him out to California so I know what he was getting for mileage (6.3 compared to my 4.9 for a well permitted GW of 102,500 lbs) I have seen the 5x4 duplex with the 2spd splitter behind it.

for what he does 102,500 is light because his trailer weighs that much empty when he has it all hooked up...... when that truck works he has to be escorted and his truck will move over 300,000 pounds with out a push truck......

say what you want, I have seen it....... just a custom tune and a cam bump........ 9 years worth of custom tuning.

now granted a tractor's computers are a bit more sophisticated but 500 rwhp out of a DOHC 5.4L is possible with just a tune.

while I am at it .... there is a Duramax running around Holland MI that makes 1200 RWHP on fuel only.... no drugs.

:icon_confused: Sounds like a "trucker's story" to me.:icon_rofl: And I've been doin that for 32 years.:bye: It doesn't take 1000+ HP to move that much weight. I used to haul 100,000 + pond loads of logs out of the woods with nothing more than a 238 Detriot. All it takes is the right rear gears and transmission. The most HP a 3406 was rated for was around 500. Bumping one to 1000 would destroy one in short order trying to pull loads like that. Especially up a long grade in the mountains or the desert. There are two ways to get power from an engine. One way it'll have a very short life. The other way it won't. But add up the total output from either over their respective lifespans and you'll end up with about the same amount. I belive it may be possible to do what you say with a 3406, simply due to it being turbocharged to start with. But with an N/A 5.4 ? Uh-uh :nono:

I think somebody is comparing apples to oranges here. Obviously diesel engines are very different.

Think getting of the subject a bit off subject? What has a diesel have to do with anything?
The OP needs to go and read http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/5_0_swap_in_newer_ranger.html
for the easiest swap possible.
I have to stand by my statement that you need a blower and all the required fuel systems up-graded from either the 4.6 or the 5.4 DOHC to get 500 rwhp. Then from there you can re-tune to gain another 100 hp. It's takes a good tuner and there are a lot out there now but you also then really have to watch the quality of the gas you use. I'm close to 500 rwhp (4.6L w/forged bottom end) but it took all those changes to get there. Stock heads and cams, even the stock exhaust manifolds work good at that power level. I know of where I am coming from!

Is the Explorer swap in the tech library also usable in a 2wd 3.0 ranger? Like is there 2wd 5.0 explorers or just use and AWD minus the transfer case or something?

not messed up in the head it is a good deal on a 5.0 block and heads with 2 cams and after towing withmy underpowerd 3.0 a 5.0 seems alot better and no it doesnt have to be carbed i was just throwin that out there i know i would need a wiring harness for a 5.0 and trans. if i could find a explorer with the 5.0 i would swap that and the trans in it i would swap that into my truck. and if i were to mod my 3.0 i would spend more time and money on motor work than i would to swap a 5.0 in my truck
