I started with a 1999 factory 4X4 but honestly for what you have planned a 2wd will work just fine. As far as axles I wound up with a set of Super Duty axles cheaper than I could find D44 or D30 stuff around me. As a bonus all of my ABS and Speedo work correctly with no "Appalachian Engineering" applied. Best of luck in your swapping!
