i want to put a 5.0 v-8 out of an explorer in my 1990 ranger. i have been told that i would have to use a engine out of a 1996-1997.5 explorer to get around the pats. ok no problem but i want to still have a manual tranny i was wondering if the stock 5 speed tranny would hold the extra power from the v-8 or would i have to find another tranny

Any Explorer motor will work, find the best for the condition and price. It's the computer and wiring that causes the PAT's problem. Just convert to the Mustang computer and wiring and your done. Most just use the T-5 from a V-8 Mustang.

No will not work, have to use something out of a F-150 and might as well us that transfer case also.

In case it wasn't clear, you don't need an engine from an Explorer. Any 5.0 HO is recommended, from a Mustang/Lincoln/Merc, etc.

ok thats what i was afraid of...... do you have any idea how long it will take and do you have any suggestions on making the swap eaiser

quit thinking and just do it...there is no real answer here. nobody knows what you are capable of and how fast you are
