I have heard a lot about using 5.0 pedistal mount roller rockers so I thought I would give it a try. I bought a new set of roller rockers and metric bolts to use on the 3.0 heads. Yeah, they bolt right on and fit under the valve covers with no problem. The only problem is the stock push rods are now about .200" too short! Anyone else experience this problem?? Has anyone REALLY done this swap without this problem?? I don't have a problem buying new push rods but would like some advice from someone who has used 5.0 roller rockers and was successful.
Thanks!

its been done successfully. ive never heard of anyone having any problems with their pushrods being too short. are you sure your lifters havnt bleed down while you were working on the engine?

Didn't the Vulcan actually come with roller rockers, for some short period in the early 1990s? What lever/lift ratio were those?

If one were to find such an engine w/ < 60k miles at U-pull-it, would it be worth getting the roller rockers? Would your timid Vulcan REALLY "wind out" so much better? Is the stock valvetrain really lame-o???

the valvetrain is fine, just for ppl that want a lil more power for little money w/o doing anything drastic to the engine adding a lil lift to the valves to make it get a lil more air helps out. not sure if the newer engines went to roller rockers eventually but the rockers are set to 1.6 to one ratio, most ppl upgrade to 1.7 to one for extra lift and the benefit of roller rockers as well. i found a set of 1.72 to one rockers one time but the site said they were out, which was a bummer cuz if and when i install some i wanted the max i could get to help my engine breathe under boost conditions.

I love the little review they posted on stuffyourranger, "I'd have to say..that I'm a little disappointed.. I think I just burned through my back tires!!!"

LOL.

the 3.0 never came with roller rockers from the factory. everything after '92 (meaning any ranger 3.0) had a roller cam...but no roller rockers.

do you guys know if the valve covers from the older generation 3.0's would fit on a 2003 or newer i just think the new valve covers are ugly and boring and i want to dress up my engine bay a bit thanks!

really? have you actually looked at the old steel valve covers? they are about as ugly and non-descript as they can be.

if you really want to swap, they should bolt on...

lol yeah i used to have a 99 3.0 the question is have you seen the new ones theres nothing to em their really ugly my old ones said 3.0 on them

speaking of valve covers, anybody know where you can have custom ones made for a 3.0? i want mine to say 3.3 H.O. hee hee hee....

And if they can't... find one of those places where they make stickers and have 'em make a set for you. Stick 'em over the valve covers and clear coat 'em. They will look awsome.

So am I able to go down to the local JY and pick up a pair out of a 5.0. and they should work fine? sorry just wandering cause I have a small vavle cover leak. so I figure if I could do a easy cheap mod while I was in there I would.

Things to know about 5.0 rocker swap.

5.0 roller rockers is NOT a plug and play swap! Yeah, they fit find with metric bolts but valve train geometry is altered and the push rods are too short. Stock rockers and pivots for the 5.0 and 3.0 are different parts with different part numbers. I am currently working on this swap and will post proper shim size and push rod length as well as pictures as I figure this out. So hang tight, 3.0 Guys, and I will post my findings shortly! Happy motoring.
