Also, the 99-01 Explorer had the same fuel system as your Ranger, but a different PATS system. So that has to be addressed.
My 5.0 swap happened because it was a 17 year old’s dream truck. The exact final product is a refinement of the original concept and the 331 stroker part hasn’t happened yet, but basically it’s there. Are there more modern options that make more power? Absolutely. But this was a gravel driveway build of a kid’s dream. Like my Choptop, a fun toy. Will I possibly build something with a more modern engine? Most likely after I get a garage.
Swaps have a ton of variables. There’s some really cool options out there anymore, but the farther you venture off the beaten path, the more you need fab skills and dedication. A garage to work in helps a lot, even better is having a lift in the garage. None of that is necessary, of course, but it helps.
