Hey guys, is there a way to tell by looking at the heads on a 5.0 if they are GT40 heads or not? I just got a 1998 5.0 engine & was told it had GT40 heads on it.

98 are gt40p 4 verticle bars on front end of head.they might not fit certain headers right to keep plug wires safe.smaller chamber than gt40 = more power.about as good as stock can get but still not great.

There's a "P" cast into one corner of the head, next to the valve cover in addition to the four vertical bars on the ends

Yeah. GT40P heads take a different header than a GT40 because of the plug location. Pretty tough to find headers for the P's, but TorqueMonster supposedly makes an awesome set. They're pretty damn pricey though.

The GT40's are your best bet aside from aftermarket heads. They outflow the Mustang E7TE's by a mile.
