If if it is a roller, 150hp. Torque is pretty decent at somewhere around 270ft-lb at a pretty low RPM though.

The differences with them and an 87+ HO is that they have E6 heads, a weak cam, non-forged pistons with no valve reliefs. They also had cast iron exhaust manifolds vs the HO's tubular headers and the HO had a better intake.

Basically an HO cam will bring you to comparable specs of an '86 HO, 200hp. In '86 the HO had E6 heads.

It is a case by case deal (I think depending on how much the heads and block have been surfaced) but different heads can get you 25hp+ depending on what they are. E7's were the most common HO head and were rated at 225hp. You have to check valve clearances though.

Without valve reliefs you will have a tad more compression than an HO would have.

The lower intakes are the same between the HO and base 5.0. The truck intake is better than the HO's, these also have the same long block as the HO, sans the forged pistons and cam. This is only true for the 87-92 motors, after 92 all had the same pistons, plus the 94-97 truck/van 5.0 has a shade less cam than the HO, the specs are very close though.

I should have a set of E7s laying around but they need new studs. Before I start the swap should I put a different cam in? I want my swap in to be better than the 2.9 It had lol

It is always easier to change stuff in the engine without the engine being in the truck. :icon_thumby:

That said I don't think a stock 4.0 would get off too easy trying to keep up with a healthy lopo.

Do check your valve clearances before you get too carried away with it.

E7's didn't have studs. A cam change in it would do wonders. The base roller's specs are pretty lame. The valve lifts are something like .392/.402
