Ok heres the deal, I have an 86 Bronco II with a Crown vic 302 in and running! F150 5 speed out of a 88-90 put in with new clutch, flywheel all the goods new!

Now I kept the 86 BII master cylinder cuz finding something to bolt up to that same spot and actually fit was an issue.. I went to a hydraulic shop and had them build me a hose that would link from my master to the new F150 slave..

Problem: Its not sending enough fluid for some reason, Ive even swallowed my pride and takin it to a mechanic thinking i wasnt bleeding it correctly and even he cant get it to go into gear.. he said the throw out bearing was about a 16th of an inch away from the teeth with the pedal pressed to the floor .. :bawling:

Am i the only one that has done this swap because im not finding anything and ive searched EVERYWHERE it feels like.. im losin hope and just need some help guys.. I appreciate any advice you throw at me!!

You either need a bigger master or a smaller slave. The F-150 is the external push from the front kind? Slaves and masters have to be properly sized to work right. Imagine trying to fill a quart jar out of a pint jar. What goes from the master has to have enough to push the slave.

its an internal slave... Do you know of a master that will bolt up to my bII firewall? I cant imagine you can really use a smaller slave though?

you shoudnt be havin issues man. i have an 88 ranger, fm146 trans. cross refernced the slaves from that tranny to an 89 m5odr2 which is what im going to use and its the same part. are you 100% sure its bled? i have had a hell of a time bleedin mine before.

Me personally no.. i had a mechanic doit cuz i wanted to be positive and he assured me that he knew how stubborn they can be to bleed, sooo hopefully.
another thing , there is a slight creese in the hydraulic hose i had made because of the angle it comes off of my master to the tranny.. would that make a huge difference?

A kinked hose will make it even harder to bleed than it already is. That said, the F150's used the same master cylinder that the rangers did in the late 80's. But there's two bore sizes, 3/4" and 7/8" I had the 7/8" on mine fedding a McCleod hydro T/O bearing and it worked fine once you got it bled. I don't know where the bleeder screw is on yours, but the McCleod unit had a hose extending out the bell. I lengthened this hose, extending it up to the rear of the intake manifold, not sure if it helped, but it sure was easier to bleed, standing up, rather than lying on your back under the truck.

There is a 7/8" master available. Go to napaonline.com , and just choose "1989 Ranger" randomly. You will find the part number. I've posted it many times, but don't recall the number.
I used one, and modified my truck to fit it. (firewall/master mount changed in 1995)

They are very, very difficult to bleed. I'd pull the trans apart, and bleed the system with the slave in you hand, holding it in the engine bay. That's what I did. (little easier for me as I have an external slave)
I did not use the bleeder on the slave, I filled the slave, filled the master and line, then carefully connected the line to the slave. PITA
