4x4 trans crossmember bushings

My 1990 xlt 2.3L 5-speed 4x4 has some trans cross member issues. The cross member bushings are deteriorated to the point where the trans is flopping around due to the torque of the motor as I shift.

Are those bushings on the end of the trans cross member pressed in?

They are rusted and look like they would be a bear to remove. I was wondering if anyone had any tricks to making them easier to remove or if it would be a better idea just to find a used cross member and just replace it.

If cross member replacement is more practical for a backyard mechanic, what years cross member would just bolt in?

The cross member is not badly rusted, just the bushing housing and bolts.

Thanks fellas in advance for any help!

The bushings are not replaceable, nor have they ever been
available as areplacement part

ANY replacement crossmember you can get will be atleast 18years old.

The EASY way, the CERTAIN way and in my personal opinion the BEST
way to deal with your issue is to not only remove the crossmember,
but the brackets for it and replace it with the "L-shaped" crossmember
from an early explorer....

your 1990 already has the hole drilled in the frame for the drivers side
(single bolt) and the passenger side uses the holes that the bracket is
riveted through.

Thanks AllenD, I appreciate your help. I am suprized those bushings are not available! I'll look for an early Explorer L shaped cross member and the brackets.
Thanks Again, Jim
