My 1990 xlt 2.3L 5-speed 4x4 has some trans cross member issues. The cross member bushings are deteriorated to the point where the trans is flopping around due to the torque of the motor as I shift.
Are those bushings on the end of the trans cross member pressed in?
They are rusted and look like they would be a bear to remove. I was wondering if anyone had any tricks to making them easier to remove or if it would be a better idea just to find a used cross member and just replace it.
If cross member replacement is more practical for a backyard mechanic, what years cross member would just bolt in?
The cross member is not badly rusted, just the bushing housing and bolts.
Thanks fellas in advance for any help!
