I just bought a 01 ranger V6 4L
the guy said the 4x4 worked fine.. but when i got there we tried the knob and nothing happened. he sounded like he really wasn't expecting that so i offered him less cash and bought it.
i would like to fix this issue.
i tried switching the knob to 4 hi and 4 lo in driver, neutral, park, everything but i get no indication that it is working no sounds no light indicators or anything. and its definitely not working since the back tires spin out just as easily. i looked in the owners book for fuses. the only thing that looked relevent was "4x4 motor 20AMP" so i checked that fuse and it was fine.

where else can i look to solve this issue?

Stuck shift motors are pretty common but the 2001 has a separate 4x4 module behind the passenger side kick panel that likes to quit working, Ive replaced quite a few of them. If the shift motor is sticky you can usually free it up by tapping on it with a hammer while someone works the switch for you. Might be a temporary fix but at least you'll know that's what it is.
