I am a long time reader, but this is my first post, so take it easy on me guys.

My bronco II is making a vibrating/rubbing sound when the front hubs are locked. It started last week, and has gotten progressively worse this week since I have been driving through snow every day. It doesn't matter if my transfer case is in 2-hi or 4-hi, the rubbing sounds persists. However when I disengage the hubs, the sounds goes away, even when I put the transfer case in 4-hi and drive around without the hubs being locked.

My question is this, would low fluid in the front end create a rubbing sound, or does this type of sounds happen when something more destructive is going on? It could be something else for sure (like cv/u joints maybe), but I don't have a lot of experience in auto repair, eventhough I enjoy the work.

Thanks,
