I just did the conversion from old auto to warn manuel hubs on my 95 Ranger and followed the tech photos here at the Ranger Station great stuff.
I have a question maybe some one can answer..
After I did the job and the tires were on etc. On one wheel I found I forgot to put on the "c" clip ... I gave it a thought and I dont believe it is necessary, also why would one also put back on the spacers ? that were there for the auto hubs ? the spacers also would be placed on last and not apparently serving any purpose. The only reason I can see to replace the clip is its a good place to keep it... Also the sleeve that had to be removed did get pushed in, to be able to off the nut and after the new parts go on the sleeve is no longer used. It would be nice to mention that, as I tried for several minutes to get it to go back when it can't. The directions dont indicate any of this or the spacers issue.. I 'd like to hear from someone who may know what I am talking about.. Thanks

The c clip keeps the nuts from backing off. They aren't supposed to be super tight. It only takes a couple minutes to do it right.

Actually the c-clip (together with the spacer, or internally splined washer) retains the axle shaft within the spindle (and is used with both auto or manual hub setups). Without it the shaft might slip backward out of the hub splines, leaving you without 4WD, not to mention the shaft won't stay sealed against the backside of the spindle.

If its in the kit it is necessary, it costs too much to put extra parts in haha. Like stated above it doesn't take a long time to do the job the right way

Ok, Thanks Guys, I can agree with you about the "C" clip preventing the Nuts from backing all the way off, and the splined washers importance, Thanks. Oh, all the parts from the kit were used, it was the"c" clip that was forgotton to be reinstalled. I'll have it back on tomorrow.

Yeah Junkie is right about the axle shaft. I forgot.

GUys, everyone im sure has read by bearing problems over the last year. WEll I recently did them again and was having a problem with my locknuts backing off. The c clip and spacer is all that kept my wheel from coming off until i realized the nutz were loose and was able to tighten things back down. The real purpose like said above is keeping the axle in place as the c clip is only big enough to retain the spacer. It wont keep any other parts on. But together the two were a nice accident prevention. They may not have ben intended that way, but Ill never go without them again.

Oh by the way a note to anyone doing this....
the splined washer is the last one on, then the clip....

the round washers will not be secured without the splined washer, as the splines are held back by the clip... and all esle assembled behind it!
